Development of an agile portfolio strategy for the e-commerce division

The task

As the operator of Europe's largest electronics retailer, MediaMarktSaturn has one of the leading online platforms for electronics. Especially in this environment, customer needs and external influencing factors are changing ever faster. The aim of the project was to develop an agile portfolio strategy for the e-commerce division that would enable it to remain capable of acting despite rapid developments.

The project

venture.idea initially prioritized the strategic goals and criteria with the relevant stakeholders and then translated them into a KPI framework. Building on this, existing and planned strategic initiatives could be located in a uniform portfolio matrix. This enabled not only a transparent assessment of the relevance of existing projects, but also the derivation of gaps in action for achieving the goals.

The result

With the implementation of the portfolio strategy, a targeted framework for short- and long-term initiatives from management and the overall organization could also be established. The established portfolio strategy was immediately put to the test by the 2020 Corona crisis and proved to be an essential tool for crisis management.

"Thanks to the agile portfolio strategy, we remain capable of acting at all times, even in an increasingly fast-moving and complex environment."
Timo Emmert, Commercial Director / Authorized Officer E-Commerce, MediaMarktSaturn
