Development of an agile portfolio strategy for the e-commerce division

The task

As the operator of Europe's largest electronics retail chain, MediaMarktSaturn has one of the leading online platforms for electronics articles. In this environment in particular, customer needs and external influencing factors are changing ever faster. The aim of the project was to establish an agile portfolio strategy for the e-commerce division that would enable the company to remain capable of acting at all times despite rapid developments.

The project

venture.idea first prioritized the strategic goals and criteria with the relevant stakeholders and then transferred them into a KPI framework. Based on this, existing and planned strategic initiatives could be located in a uniform portfolio matrix. This not only enabled the transparent assessment of the relevance of existing projects, but also the derivation of action gaps for the achievement of objectives.

The result

The implementation of the portfolio strategy also provided a targeted framework for short- and long-term initiatives from management and the organization as a whole. The established portfolio strategy was immediately put to the test by the Corona Crisis 2020 and proved to be an essential tool for crisis management.

"Thanks to the agile portfolio strategy, we always remain capable of acting even in an increasingly fast and complex environment"
Timo Emmert, Commercial Manager / Authorized Representative E-Commerce, MediaMarktSaturn
